Then we came upon the Scottish highlands to the west - The Isle of Skye! As outdoorsy people who love nature and scenery, Skye did not disappoint. Despite visiting at the beginning of summer, the famous overcast Scottish weather was what we faced for our 4 days here. It was distinctly colder than inland Scotland and we contended with blistering winds but that didn't stop us from putting our trekking boots on and embracing the outdoors. We based ourselves in Portree and had booked a small Bnb which we randomly found online. Portree was a picturesque fishing village with quaint coloured buildings overlooking the sea.
Over the few days here, we visited the fairy pools, the medieval Dunvegan castle, Neist light house, the town of Uig, climbed the Old man of Storr and the fairy glen. The rugged landscape continued to impress and everything was so green and luscious. We even rescued a baby owl we found on the side of the road. Baby owl happily sat on my lap wrapped in Joe's jacket as we drove him to the vet in Portree. To cap it all off, we treated ourselves to a fancy 3 course dinner meal at the Scorrybreach Restaurant in Portree. The highlight was the truffle mushroom soup which had been aerated and frothed - delicious!
