We arrived in sunny and hot Rome and were met with clear blue skies and warm breezes. We stayed near Roma Termini and was walking distance from all the historical sites including Fontana De Trevi, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Piazza Navona, Spaish steps, Piazza del popolo and Castel Sant Angelo. We also spent half a day at the Vatican and had a day trip to the catacombs. The catacombs were essentially an underground maze of tombs for roman Christians. In total, there were 11 miles of underground tunnels that date back to the 2nd century AD. The italian food and drink were magnifico! We feasted on pizza, pasta, breads, cheeses, cured meats, croissants, coffees, wines and beers! Rome was such a contrast to the UK in terms of the culture, food and architecture and I loved every bit of it!
