At our third greek island, Naxos was a much more family friendly holiday place. We found the beaches here not as nice as it was super windy and the water quite choppy. We tried to get to the eastern beaches which we heard were quite secluded and wild however we got lost on our scooter and ended up in this abandoned navy area which had an eery vibe. Truly, we didn't see any other scooter or cars on the road for about 30mins and the winds were picking up too so we drove back to Naxos port! Our favourite place was Chalkia, a quiet little down in the middle of the island lined with small cafes and cute boutique stalls. There is also a scenic walk through the olive grove which takes you to these old churches. We also stumbled across this cave high up int he mountains which we needed to trek up to but the views were amazing.
Windy streets of Naxos Port. The roads/stairs had central grooves dug out for water to drain out of the town.
Walking through olive groves - the landscape is so dry but plants and trees were still thriving!
We made friends with a small black donkey and fed him some greens
Fruit trees and grape vines were everywhere on the sides of roads here in Chalkia. The grapes did not taste too bad either!
