The city of canals built on stilts! We went on a fantastic free Venice City walking tour the first afternoon we arrived and got a fantastic introduction into the northern part of Venice. We learnt about the history of Venice and how people started congregating here to escape the Huns. We explored the old Jewish quarter, learnt about local cuisine including Cicchetti (venetian appetizers) and the local Carnivals and festivals.
On our second day, we walked to Saint Mark’s Square, the Rialto Bridge and took a water taxi to Burano. We met this fantastic Italian couple from Milan and hung out with them the entire afternoon. They had recently gotten engaged in Provence, France!
