Cognac
We went on a tour of the Chateau de Cognac, which was home to King Frances I of France, and his friend Leonardo da Vinci visited him often. The tour took us through the Chateau, taught us the Cognac making process and we got to try some really expensive high quality cognac at the end. Despite it being just after peak season, we found this town a bit deserted and empty with a lot of the shops closed. Even so, we found wandering around this small town very charming!
On our road trip through France, we stopped by these beautiful country towns and went into local bakeries for morning tea!
Lyon
This was the only really big town we visited and it was a big highlight! Considered the capital of offal in France, Lyon was a charming city filled with amazing architecture and a great food scene. We went on a free walking tour to get our bearings and learnt a bit more about the history of this place. Our walking tour was so informative and comprehensive; we walked through the old town, to the old silk community quarters, saw a lot of street art and walked through the many hidden passages within the old town, called Traboules. There is a big cathedral on top of the hill that looks over Lyon and we took a cable car up to have a look. The cathedral itself is very grand and the views of Lyon from above were amazing!
Gordes
On our way into spain, we stopped by Gordes; a beautiful, small town in Provence, France set on a mountain. It was sadly here that whilst we were exploring this place, our van got broken into. Luckily, the local police were very helpful and friendly and guided us on our way.
