Bucegi Mountains
On our drive up to the Bucegi mountains, we entered a world of winter wonderland! It had snowed heavily in this higher altitude and there was just so much on the roads, buildings and trees! We wild camped within the mountains on a fantastic stretch of road in the national park near the town of Buresti. Although the sign at the entrance of Bucegi national park said you were not allowed to camp here, we saw quite a few other campers and locals around and empty fireplaces left over from other campers. The true highlight was at night, when we spotted a wild bear around 10m from us drinking from the river! It was quite frightened of us and ran back up into the trees.
Bucharest
To our joy (again!), we woke up in Bucharest to even more snow than we experienced in Zarnesti! The snow was about 1 foot deep and completely covered our van and the ground and all the surrounding trees! Even our small step to get into the van which we left outside was blanketed in snow. Despite the really cold and wet weather, we still really wanted to explore Bucharest, so we layered up and walked our way to the bus stop close by. We didn't take a lot of photos in Bucharest as it was just too freezing and constantly wet and snowing, so the camera stayed safe and dry inside our bag. Walking around old town, we visited a beautiful multi-storey bookstore that was just beautiful.
