Geysir Geothermal Area
This area is geothermal active where hot geysers periodically shoot boiling hot water out of the ground and high into the air. Strokkur geyser is currently the most active one and errupts every 5-10mins in an amazing display. When you walk around the place, you can see lots of other smaller bubbling geysers shooting their little spouts of water.
The colours of the landscape were amazing.
Geyser going off every 10 minutes.
Kerid Crater Lake
Not part of the 'big 3' attractions of the golden circle, but Kerid Crater was a great find for us as we found ourselves with time to spare after seeing the main sites. Kerid is a volcanic crater lake formed some 3000 years ago by a huge explosion. Normally it is frozen by December however Icelandic locals told us they were having quite a mild winter. On the road driving to these different places, we also came across Icelandic horses in their paddocks. Visitors could buy a small cup of treats and feed them and these horses were not shy.
Lots of beautiful icelandic horses to pat and feed on the road.
