We stumbled across Solheimajokull glacier by accident on our drive south towards the town of Vik. The glacier is open to the public to visit but it is recommended that you join a hiking tour to walk directly on the glacier. We learnt that the glacier is receding approximately 50m a year. The cerulean/aqua blue colour of the glacier was really significant to us and there were chunks of floating glacier in the water that had recently broken off from the main section. This was definitely a huge highlight for us being able to see, walk on and touch a glacier!

Vik is a seafront town in south Iceland famous for its black sand beach, Reynisfjara. The beach is also the site for filming 'The Night's Watch' for the TV show Game of Thrones (East Watch by the Sea). There are also basalt columns and rock formations next to the beach called Reynisdrangar, which get pummelled by the rough surf.
