Our week in Slovenia

We started our week in Slovenia by stopping at the famous Lake Bled! It was a windy day but we could imagine how glorious it would be in the summer when you are able to swim there! One of the highlights of this country was the free camper spot situated 15mins outside the capital and next to a bus and train station. The camper spot also offered water and electricity and we met some german campers who were taking advantage of the free spot. They invited us over for dinner and cooked us german crepes/pancakes for dinner!

Lljublana

We went on a free walking tour to see the sites of the capital. The city is proud of its 'green' title as being the most eco-friendly capital in Europe. The city only allows foot traffic and cars are banned from the centre. To compensate, the local council offer free electric taxis to ferry you across town! We enjoyed the colourful architecture, wandering through the markets, walking up to the castle and eating (twice) the best falafel kebabs we have ever tasted (thanks to our friend for the hot tip!).

The best falafel in town!

The city's library which is designed to be very dark on the bottom floor but lighter and grander as you reach the top to symbolise 'enlightenment'.

Skocjan Caves

Situated in the karst cave system to the south of the country, we visited the most amazing underground caves with a rushing canyon carving its way through. It is a UNESCO world heritage listed place where the caves are so large that the chasm could house the Vatican's St Peter's Basilica inside it. The walkway through the cave system is illuminated with lots of lights which look like an underground maze. We weren't allowed to take any photos inside but we will definitely remember these caves forever!

This was outside the cave system where the river flows out from underground.
