What an eclectic and eccentric capital! We have never experienced a city like this before – everywhere we looked were the trademark signs of liberalism, political and eco-activism. There was street art galore and we explored all the famous landmarks from WWII and the Soviet Union’s take-over of the city, including the famous remnants of the Berlin Wall. We visited Checkpoint Charlie (the only point where Western and Soviet union tanks faced off), the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe, the old SS Gestapo Headquarters, unter den Linden road and East side Gallery with the artwork adorning the Berlin wall. The city has amazing bikeways and we cycled to Tempelhof Park – which sits on the old Tempelhof airport famous for being the drop point to access Western Berlin. The park was absolutely packed with locals and we got to ride our bikes in the wind along the old tarmac air strips.

Check point Charlie. There was the Berlin marathon on the day we visited too which made for a great atmosphere to walk around town.

We stayed in our van at Treptower Park along the river which was a beautiful spot to stay and visited the nearby impressive soviet memorial. We were also really lucky with weather and enjoyed 4 days of spring sunshine and temperatures soaring upwards to 20 degrees!
